Introduction and Overview Jesus began His earthly ministry at the age of twelve, teaching the religious leaders in the Temple using a didactic teaching method of asking questions and giving answers to reveal His understanding of Scripture. (Luke 2:41-47)

But Jesus’ most mysterious speech would not occur until eighteen years later when, at the age of thirty, He stood up to read a passage in Isaiah, concluding with the mysterious phrase first spoken by the prophet: ‘To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.’

This study answers the following questions:

1. What is the acceptable year of the Lord?
2. Why is the acceptable year of the Lord so important?
3. How do we observe the acceptable year of the Lord?

The Acceptable Year of the Lord Explained

What Jesus Declared in the Synagogue

Shows the true faithful (true Jews of Revelation 2:9; 3:9) how to worship in TRUTH, that is, the true liturgy of Creator God vs. the counterfeit (fake) worldly holidays invented by the ‘man of sin’ in 2 Thes 2:3.

Why This Declaration Matters Today

Jesus’ Most Mysterious Statement in The Holy Bible

This is how you worship in Spirit and in truth (Jn 4:24; Lk 4:14-22; cf., Is 61:1-2). Proof you have the Holy Spirit is if you keep, preach, and teach the acceptable year of the Lord! See holy day calendar.

This was Jesusʼ ʻpress releaseʼ or public announcement that His earthly ministry as Messiah had begun “this day…ˮ [circa 30 A.D.].

Isaiah 61 and Its Messianic Significance

The Anointing to Preach the Acceptable Year of the Lord (the Feasts of the Lord)

The Release of Captives and Healing of the Brokenhearted (for those who observe the Feasts of the Lord, God’s true worship system of religious truth – liturgy of true Holy Days)

Here is the record of Jesus’ speech, quoting the prophet, Isaiah, ending with the mysterious phrase and applying it to Himself:

“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of Him through all the region round about.

“And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

“And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

“And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Note: In Luke 4:18, the word “preach” means the same thing as the Hebrew word “proclaim” in Isaiah 61:2; a clue to its meaning!

“And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him.

“And He began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

“And all bare Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, is not this Joseph’s son?” (Lk 4:14-22; cf., Is 61:1-2)

How the Biblical Feasts Illuminate Jesus’ Declaration

The Prophetic Pattern of the Feasts

What Is the Acceptable Year of the Lord?

Jesus, His Disciples, and Apostles kept these very feasts during their entire lives, even after His Resurrection and Ascension.

[See also a different study: “The Feasts of the Lord in the Old and  New Testaments”]

The acceptable year of the Lord is made up of “the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons.” (Lev 23:4)

The purpose of the feasts of the Lord is to portray God’s plan of redemption through Jesus Christ and its outcome.

Nine perpetual “feasts of the Lord” in Old & New Testaments are:

1. God’s Holy weekly seventh-day Sabbath. (Lev 23:1-3; Mat 24:20; 28:1; Jn 5:9-18; 7:21-23; Heb 4:4; 9-11; Rev 22:14)
2. Passover. (Lev 23:5; Mat 26:2-5; 17; 27:15; Mk 14:1-2; 15:6; Lk 2:41-42; 22:1; 23:17; Jn 2:23; 4:45; 5:1; 6:4; 11:56; 12:1; 12:12; 12:20; 13:1, 29; 18:39; 1 Cor 5:8)
3. Unleavened Bread, day 1. (Lev 23:6-8; Lk 22:1)
4. Unleavened Bread, day 7. (Lev 23:8; Lk 22:1)
5. Pentecost / Feast of First Fruits. (Lev 23:9-22; Acts 2:1; 18:21; 20:16; 1 Cor 16:8)
6. Trumpets [a ten-day feast ʽten days of aweʼ]. (Lev 23:23-25; Acts 17:9)
7. 7. Atonement [a fast]. (Lev 23:26-32; Acts 27:9)
8. Tabernacles I. (Lev 23:33-44; I 7:2-14)
9. Last Great Day (day after Tabernacles day seven). (Lev 23:36; Jn 7:37)

“Jesus and His Apostles Beckon the True Faithful to Keep the Acceptable Year of the Lord”

Jesus, His Disciples, and Apostles kept these very feasts during their entire lives, even after His resurrection and Ascension. (e.g., Acts 18:21) Apostles never heard of antichrist’s FAKE worldly holidays.

Jesus began His earthly ministry in the flesh by applying Isaiah chapter 61 to Himself; and, the chapter outlines His entire life and mission on earth: to keep, to teach, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Thus, He reaffirmed Godʼs system of religious truth.

Feasts of the Lord are critical. Jesus was crucified on the Passover. The feast of the Last Great Day symbolizes redemption in Him on Judgment Day.

How Believers Must Observe the Acceptable Year of the Lord Today

Jesus turns this mission over to us, those worshiping in truth, to continue practicing and proclaiming the acceptable year of the Lord —to walk as Messiah walked.

The feasts of the Lord are “statutes forever.” (Lev 23:14, 21, 31, and 41)

Christians must observe the feasts of the Lord as the true holy days (holidays) —God’s system of religious truth opposing the Antichrist’s system of religious lies (the fake worldly holidays invented by the ‘man of sin’ of 2 Thes 2:3 circa the late 200s A.D., —Christmas and Sunday as the Devil’s ‘black sabbath’ instead of the seventh-day sabbath — adopted and promulgated by Emperor Constantine).

Living in the Liturgy Jesus Proclaimed

Remember, Jesus, His Disciples, and Apostles kept the feasts of the Lord (Acceptable Year of the Lord) throughout the New Testament, even after His resurrection and Ascension!

Walking in the System of Religious Truth is How You Worship in Truth

Why is “the acceptable year of the Lord” (God’s system of religious truth) so important?

It is the mark of the living Creator God upon His faithful TRUE believers vs. False Vain Worshippers of Antichrist.

Jesus warned us to worship God in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

• Jesus and His Disciples and Apostles warn that a powerful antichrist system will arise with such strong delusion that it threatens to deceive the very elect! (Mat 24:24)

• “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Mat 7:23)

• Thus, Jesus warned that there are two types of people claiming to be Christians (Jn 4:23-24; Lk 4:14-22; cf., Is 61:1-2):

• Those who worship God in spirit and in truth (Jn 4:23-24) by keeping the Ten Commandments and Feasts of the Lord (“Acceptable Year of the Lord,ˮ Lev 23:1-44) —the only way to worship in truth. (Jn 4:23-24; Lk 4:14-22; Is 61:1-2)
Note: These are those who receive eternal life.

• Those who worship God in spirit but in vain (Mat 15:9; Mk 7:7) by keeping the fake commandments and worldly holidays of the man of sin (2 Thes 2:3) —deceiving many to worship in vain. (Mat 24:24; Rev 13:1-10; 18; 22:15)
Note: These are those who burn in the lake of fire.

God’s system of religious truth has two main parts:

1. God’s times (the nine perpetual feasts of the Lord).

2. God’s law (the Ten Commandments).

God’s times and law are the core of His system of religious truth— which is how you worship God in truth instead of in vain.

The prophet Daniel warned that the antichrist power would arise and think to change God’s “times and law.” (Dan 7:25)

The antichrist power is a sovereign nation, the Vatican City State, which thinks to change God’s times and law by:

1. Falsely teaching that Roman Catholic holidays are now the “feasts of the Lord.” (cf., Vatican II)

2. Falsely teaching that the Ten Commandments have changed (deleted the Second Commandment against idol worship; moved Commandment numbers 3-9 up a notch each; and, split the Tenth Commandment into two parts to make up for the lost Second one.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Q1: What is the acceptable year of the Lord?

So important are God’s times that He commanded nine specific times as feasts (true holy days) to be observed perpetually, meaning both now on earth as well as in heaven after the fullness of times. (cf., Lev 23; Num 28 and 29; Zec 14)

FAQ Q2: Why is it important?

Practicing the Acceptable Year of the Lord (the feasts of the Lord) allows you to: 1) worship Creator God in truth [God’s system of religious truth revealed throughout the earthly life of Messiah in fulfilling the prophecy in Isaiah 61:1-2, His Apostles and Disciples]; and, 2) thereby take the mark of God, thus rejecting the mark of the ‘beast’ (Rev 13:18) which is comprised of the fake worldly holidays invented by the man of sin (2 Thes 2:3) which force Antichrist’s followers to worship in vain.

If you still feel enmity against keeping the feasts of the Lord, then you have not fully accepted Jesus’ grace which is defined as abolishing our enmity; that is, abolishing our opposition to His statutes, laws, judgments, etc… . (Eph 2:15; Rom 8:7; Jas 4:4)

Specifically, regarding the feast of Atonement, but perhaps symbolizing all the feasts: “[Anyone who does not come up to these feasts] ‘shall be cut off from his people.'” (Lev 23:29)

FAQ Q3: How do we observe it today?

Keep/observe the nine perpetual “feasts of the Lord” in Old & New Testaments by following the holy day calendar published on our website and others who follow the reckoning set forth in Leviticus chapter 23.

Note that the holy days calendar changes each year due to the complexity of the Hebrew solar-lunar calendar.
